Extreme Sports for a Good Thrill!
Are you looking for thrills? With its large number of rivers, its steep landscape and its forests, the province of Quebec is a perfect destination to try extreme sports. This summer, overcome your fears! The real question is: "Will you be brave enough to try one of the extreme sports of our list? "
Water sports: Rafting, sportyak and river boarding
Do you like water and adrenaline? Rafting, sportyak and river boarding are a good choice for you!
If you are a beginner, it’s better if you start with rafting, which is an excellent activity to practice in group. The only thing you need to do is to listen to your guide’s instructions and to face the rapids! There are many rafting companies in the province:
- Rafting Montréal (Montreal) - 16 km from Hôtels Gouverneur Montréal
- H20 Adventures et Expédition (Saguenay / Lac Saint-Jean)
- Rafting Nouveau Monde (Laurentians)
Sportyak requires a little more skills because it’s a double pneumatic kayak. You can practice this sport with a guide, but knowledge of rowing is always a plus to avoid turning over too often. One of the best place to try this sport is on Rivière Rouge with the company Nouveau Monde.
3) River boarding
For a more direct contact with water, go for the river boarding. It is the most intense of the three activities because you face the rapids with only a board and palms! The companies offering the activity are:
Air sports: Hang-gliding, paragliding and skydiving
Who has never dreamed to fly? Thanks to hang-gliding, paragliding or skydiving, it's possible! This is your first time? Start with a tandem experience. Want to become an expert? There are several schools for each discipline.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a hang-glider! Although you are several thousand feet above the ground, you will have the sensation to slide into the sky. An experience a little more soft than the skydiving.
Paragliding is like skydiving without the big fall. It’s a little more intense than hang-gliding, but more soft than skydiving. The view you will have will leave you speechless.
After a jump of 9000 to 18 000 feet you will feel a big rush of adrenaline. It is an experience to live at least once in a lifetime!
Anti-vertigo sports: Climbing, via ferrata and bungee
Although the mountains of Quebec are a little smaller than Canadian Rockies, there are some beautiful views to discover. If you are not afraid of height, try one of those sports : climbing, via ferrata or bungee.
There are several indoor climbing centers. However, if you want a bigger challenge and a more complete experience, some companies offer the opportunity to climb on a rock face outside. If you are an experienced climber, check the slope level of difficulty to avoid accidents.
8) Via ferrata
Via ferrata is a hybrid between hiking and climbing since it is mostly horizontal. During this activity, you are maintained by steel cables. Just like hiking, there are different levels of difficulty. Here are some suggestions of where to practice via ferrata:
- Parc National du Mont-Tremblant (Laurentians)
- Tyroparc (Laurentians)
- Cap Jaseux Adventure Park (Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean)
- Via Batiscan (Mauricie)
Bungee is by far the most intense experience of the three because you are taking the leap only held by one cable. Great Canadian Bungee is well known with its 200 feet jump! Thrill guaranteed!
